About the Artist
I was introduced to art as most kids, in elementary school. Getting to go to the art room was always something special for me. I loved getting my hands dirty and creating, but I always thought I'd be an architect. After meeting with the Dean of Architecture at the University of Kentucky, I found that I needed to take an art class in high school. This renewed my love of creating and I decided to study art in college.
I graduated from Campbellsville University with a BA in Art, using those skills to do web design and paint, but not actively pursuing the arts as a career. In 2002, my OB/GYN unceremoniously kicked me out of my studio and I HAD to find another creative outlet. It was then that I discovered jewelry-making. It started out with simple strung beaded pieces and exploded with the addition of wire, metal, silver clay and my biggest love, bead-weaving.
Recurring themes in my work are texture and color, as fun and funk are what drive me! With my background in painting, usually with vivid colors straight from the tube, my jewelry designs tend to be bold, if not a little eclectic. I call myself the ADD jewelry designer, as the majority of my pieces are one of a kind designs that I make up as I go along. I like to say that I let the beads speak to me, instead of trying to manipulate them and make them do what I want.
I'm open to custom designs and commissions, including repair and reworking vintage jewelry into updated designs.
I own and operate These Precious Things, a small art gallery and coffee bar in Lebanon, Ky. I am active in art fairs across the state, local civic organizations and chasing my daughter around.
